Nursing care for veterans

As an eligible veteran of the Australian defence forces, our DVA Community Nursing program is available to ensure you can get the help you need to remain in your own home for as long as possible.

  • Restoring your health following illness
  • Maintain your best level of independence
  • Taking your tablets
  • Managing your symptoms
  • Dressing your wounds
  • Assistance with hygiene
  • Getting injections
  • Treating a health condition.

You may have access to clinical services through the DVA Community Nursing program that we are approved to offer by the Government. This program aims to support with your complex care needs and reduce your risk of going to hospital.

You can access community nursing services through a referral from your general practitioner, and then contact us to arrange a comprehensive assessment and then provide you with all the community nursing services.

Services are provided by registered nurses, enrolled nurses and carers qualified to a Certificate III level in aged care.

Using with a home care package

You can use the Community Nursing program in conjunction with other Government-funded programs to receive additional services that are not covered by the DVA, such as social support through a level 1 or 2 home care package.

  • Cooking and meal preparation
  • Assistance with eating
  • Laundry
  • Assistance with your shopping
  • Transport to appointments
  • Companionship, outings and excursions.

As the level 3 and 4 home care packages aim to provide for all a person's assessed clinical and personal care needs, a veteran would typically be on this higher level home care package program only and not access DVA programs unless there are exceptional circumstances.

You can also use the home and community care program for similar services not covered by your DVA program. This offers some help with daily tasks, meals, social support and transport.

We are a fully-accredited and approved provider for the DVA Community Nursing Program and home care packages. This means that we can offer you a seamless, coordinated service with just the one point of contact. We also work with local councils as a service provider for home and community care programs and so can do this for you as well.
